Tom Carroll needs to be given a chance from the...
Tottenham Hotspur’s season is in real danger of fizzling out in a similar manner to last year and the young midfielder could freshen up the midfield and provide some attacking impetus.
Whilst there was always a real chance this could happen, Tottenham Hotspur fans had hoped that last year’s disappointment was something that couldn’t be repeated this time around. The squad seemed stronger and...
Bruno Martins Indi would be an excellent piece of...
The 21-year-old defender is one of the biggest prospects in Dutch football, and Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to fend off competition from Chelsea, Liverpool and AC Milan for his signature.
Whilst Tottenham Hotspurs fans might have been frustrated by a quiet final day of the January transfer window, they will undoubtedly agree that they have had a fine season in terms of new arrivals at White...

How has Gareth Bale improved as a player under...
Tottenham Hotspur’s star man is enjoying a stellar season at under his new manager, but how has his game changed since Villas-Boas’ arrival?
Four goals in his last three Premier League matches has built the hysteria around Gareth Bale to such an extent that there were people genuinely asking if Bale was as good as the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday afternoon....

Younes Belhanda is an unlikely target for...
Montpellier’s Moroccan midfielder has been linked with a £10 million move to Tottenham Hotspur after his feted move to Fenerbahce seemingly collapsed.
Younes Belhanda of Montpellier is rumoured to have captured the attention of Daniel Levy and Andre Villas-Boas, and at the outset, it seems like it could be a good bit of business for Spurs.
At £10 million Belhanda is relatively cheap compared to...
What would a pre-contract agreement with Lewis...
Andre Villas-Boas side are reportedly the favourites to agree a deal with the German midfielder, who can leave Schalke on a free in the summer. Would this mean a lack of other signings in January?
Given the amount of clubs competing for his signature, the acquisition of Lewis Holtby would be something of a coup for Tottenham Hotspur. The talented 22 year old is one of the hottest properties in...

Five points for Tottenham Hotspur to take from the...
Two mad minutes saw Spurs lose 2-1 in a match that was on the brink of being an excellent victory. Some positives can be taken, but they will ring hollow after the loss, and there are still considerable issues in the side.
Gallas and Caulker
Up until the final couple of minutes, this had been a strong defensive performances from the centre backs as they dealt well with the imposing aerial...
How will Scott Parker fit into the Tottenham...
The news that the England international has returned to action with an outing for the reserves is a welcome boost for Spurs ahead of the Christmas schedule, and Villas-Boas should try to find a system where his three excellent central midfielders have a place.
Slowly but surely, Spurs’ injured and suspended players are starting to return to action. Adebayor and Dembele are now available for first...
Five points for Tottenham Hotspur to take from the...
Spurs made it three wins in a week as they triumphed 3-0 against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Is it time to start getting carried away with the side’s potential, or are there still issues that need to be addressed?
Sandro and Dembele
The Belgian made it six wins from six starts for his new club, and was once again central to Spurs efforts going, completing more passes than anyone else on the pitch....

Five points for Tottenham Hotspur to take from the...
A second half comeback from City saw Spurs succumb to their third loss in three Premiership games, what should they look at ahead of next weekend’s North London derby.
Clint Dempsey: The American was once again largely anonymous playing off the striker, and looks unsuited for the role he has been given at Spurs. Dempsey is not a number ten able to set up the play in the final third, and his...
Tottenham Hotspur need to press to bring away day...
Spurs are currently playing their best football when away from home, with players needing to show more verve and courage to make the new formation a success at home.
For many years Spurs were conspicuous for their inability to play their best football when travelling, and although this has changed a little in their successful recent years, there was still a clear disparity between the confident...

Tottenham Hotspur's long term vision means time is...
In the week in week out bustle of football, it can sometimes be very difficult to take an objective view of your club. The frustration at the weekend’s result with Chelsea can colour your every view of Tottenham Hotspur, just as the four match winning run in the league that preceded it can create an overly optimistic image of the club. To step back from your club is almost impossible during...
Five things for Tottenham Hotspur to take from the...
Spurs ended up on the wrong end of a 4-2 defeat, but both the players and the manager can come out of the game with a lot of credit.
1. Andre Villas-Boas “gets” the Premier League
Villas-Boas may have lost to his former club at the weekend, but the work he did to get Spurs back into the game demonstrates the influence he has amongst the players and the understanding he has of the flow of the...
Should Tottenham Hotspur make Christian Eriksen...
A move for Joao Moutinho is still being touted, but looks unlikely with Porto doing well in the Champions League, so Spurs should focus their energies on trying to sign the young Danish midfielder from Ajax.
Spurs reportedly came very close to signing Joao Moutinho on the last day of the summer transfer window, but the disappointment of missing out on the Porto man has been somewhat lessened by...
Defoe must realise what else he offers the team
The England striker has always been obsessed with getting away shots, perhaps worried that a goal-less performance will see him dropped. But his performances this year show that he can make himself undroppable not only by scoring goals, but by working for the team.
The lone striker role has been adapting in the Premiership rapidly of late. Instead of the tall hold up man, there are plenty of...

Jan Vertonghen impresses both on and off the pitch
The assured defender has been a vital presence in the Spurs’ defence, and his interviews after matches give the impression that Thomas Vermaelen might not be the only Belgian captain in North London next season
Jan Vertonghen came to London with a big reputation, he was Ajax captain and had just been voted the Dutch footballer of the year. Tottenham had been chasing his signature for some...
Andre Villas-Boas now has a chance to change the...
Football loves a story, when Andre Villas-Boas arrived in England he was Mourinho reborn, a man with success oozing out of him who was ready to transform Chelsea into a dynamic, young attacking unit, prepared to dominate Europe for years. Within months however he cut a deject and confrontational figure in press conferences, fielding a barrage of questions about his future. Having seemingly led...
Defensive frailties will cost English teams in...
On the 19th May Chelsea sealed the unlikeliest of European victories
by beating Bayern Munich on penalties. This success was built on a
defensive system so rock solid that, playing against Barcelona, Jose
Bosingwa was made to look like an accomplished centre half. However at
the start of this season the top teams, aside from Arsenal, have all
struggled to keep clean sheets. This was already...

AVB, Rodgers, and the long term plan
Long term doesn’t mean what it used to. When AVB signed up for three years at Spurs most people barely even noticed the length of the contract, the focus is so set on the upcoming season. Since the season has started however there has already been plenty of derision of the man when he talks about his “project”, even when the length of this project is a paltry three years. The culture of football...

Reasons to be cheerful: Transfer Window round up
So, not the start we were hoping for. For once we were given a decent run of fixtures to start the season, and we have clearly failed to capitalise on this. There are likely many reasons for this but I’m going to move past that for now and look at our transfers dealings.
Our progress was slow, late and riddled with frustrations, but we have come out of the transfer market well this summer....

WBA at home: the lack of Luka
On the 3rd January 2012, Spurs, in the midst of one of their finest runs of the season, beat West Brom 1-0 at home having dominated the match. There are a truckload of caveats that make it stupid to try and compare that match to the draw yesterday, (that each side has a new manager would be top of that list), but I am stupid, and the differences between the two games seems to give a clear...
5 points on Newcastle vs Spurs
1. Both teams looked underprepared here, a lot of misplaced passes and players on their heels. This isn’t so bad for Newcastle, who will certainly improve and have the confidence of a first day win to spur them on, but Tottenham will need to pick up over the next two home games.
2. Spurs’ away days look set to follow the same theme as the past few years. Start well, look the stronger...
